Fire

I was driving home form my Army National Guard weekend and my Jeep started losing power on the freeway. I pulled over to the shoulder and it died. I got out. There was smoke coming from underneath. I opened the hood but the smoke wasn't coming from there. I looked underneath and there was a small fire on the inside of the right rear wheel well. Right behind the catalytic converter. Did I lose power because of a bad catalytic converter and is that why the fire started? It got so hot it melted some of the carpet on the inside. Between the front two seats and underneath the right rear back seat. I think the fire might have melted some of the lines near the catalytic converter. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

Yep, your cat is clogged. It has never happened to me, but a buddy of mine was in a camaro and it happened to him. He pulled over like you did, but he pulled off the road into some weeds that had been bush-hogged about a week or two before. Well, the car dang near burnt completely. I would say that is your problem.
