finally made my mind up

i wont be getting a jeep anymore my parents have talked me out of it because the insurance will be high and the fuel mileage for them sucks pretty hard from what i've heard. and my parents bought me a 86 honda civic to drive until im 16, and then they're buying me a '04 Dodge SRT-4 to drive because they're small, fast, fuel efficient, and look pretty cool. and they said that on the side i could buy a jeep with my own money and haul it with the trailor to the mud holes/trails using my dads truck so i dont have insurance on it, and its not my daily driver. Do ya'll think this is a better plan than buying a jeep for a daily driver and using it for play on the weekends?

What I don't understand is if they are worried about high insurance and fuel costs then why are they going to buy you a brand new car?

Also if there worried about insurance, an SRT-4 will be high due to the fact that its a high performance car and your 16. What SRT-4? The neon or the stratus?

Their logic seems flawed. It's a known fact that young male drivers get shafted on insurance because it's believed that they are worse drivers (don't even get me started on that one). A 4x4 for a young driver does have a higher insurance rate, but an '04 vehicle period isn't going to be cheap. Factor in a sports car type vehicle, and they could probably insure 3 Jeeps for the cost of that high perf car. When I was driving my then brand new 1995.5 Nissan 4x2 pickup, insurance at 18 was $265/month. 10 years later and in a Jeep no less, I'm paying $50/month. Go figure.

Yeah I Agree. Sounds like they are telling you a "story" to steer you away from a Jeep, possibly to keep you safer maybe?? I mean with soft sided or 1/2 doors, and you being 16, and they way kids CAN drive, it sounds like they might be worried about you getting hurt more than anything else possibly?

That's what I was thinking. Take the Honda for now, get a Jeep on the side and carry liabilty on it instead of full coverage.
