Finally Herculined the YJ
I finally got a chance to Herculine my YJ today. I was too busy with College, and now that I am on summer break, I can go without my DD for a couple of days. I really intended on doing this earlier, I saw plenty of people in this forum dealing with severe rust issues, and the rust on the interior of my Jeep was only getting worse. I went to autozone, picked up a 90$ kit, but it came with a 20$ rebate so it's a good deal.
I read many threads about this, the key was preparations. I spent about 8 hours on Friday, and another 6 hours prepping the tub. I wanted this to come out very good. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I used a xylene solution to prep the tub even further as recommended on the instructions and began to apply the Herculiner. ![]() ![]() ![]() Tomorrow I will put everything back together. So far I am very satisfied with the look the Herculiner adds.

Yes it is a custom sound bar. I made a thread about it explaining how I made it. It was very cheap to do and I am very satisfied with it. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f20/custom-soundbar-553768/ Also my mirrors are custom, federal law requires 3 mirrors. Most cops don't care but I'm not risking it. Especially since I run a dealer tag, I could get some serious fines. Thankfully no, but I was naive enough not to wear rubber gloves, I regret it so much. My hands are so black right now, I used some of that goo gone on my hands, it got some of it off, but this may take a while. |

Now you need to herc the soundbar to match. Then you won't have to worry about the rain!! I am thinking of going with a couple home brew pods to mount 6.5" speakers and I think Hurculiner would make a good tough coating to keep the rain out. The jeep looks great by the way.

Hey, Lumpy, which bolts gave you the most trouble when you pulled everything out? I'm doing my tub soon, but I don't want to sit in a pool of PB fumes until I'm ready..thanks

I can tell you from my experience, still haven't got the herc on (stupid rain) but everything is out. I pulled the roll bar as well and the bolts for it, on the floor behind the seats were in there solid. I dremel'd two flat sides on them and was able to get a large adjustable wrench to break them free.

The diver seat has 2 bolts holding it that are different from the rest. Go look at the frame holding the driver seat, you will see 2 silverish colored bolts holding it down in opposite corners (on the passenger seat it has 4 normal bolts) then you will see these black circle tab things, those are bolts welded to the seat and are secured by a nut under the tub. Those nuts get extremely rusty and are extremely prone to breaking. |
