Finally got the jeep home

went and picked up my 92 Sahara today and drove it home 6 hours.

for one going 80-85 blows the halfdoors out letting cold air in, any fix to this?

secondly boy it is loud inside there at just about any speed from all the wind...lol

thirdly man i love this thing. ordered a Spice bestop replace a top and will reuse the hardware for this top. the top i have now is in pretty bad shape.
is there an online thing on how to change the top? i have never dealt with a jeep top before.

also all my questions on how to fit 35's i asked....there is no way i could get in it if it had 35's...lol its a stretch to get in it stock right now so i am thinking 33's will be high enough.

i will throw some pics up tommorrow.

Welcome aboard.

I have a hard top, so I do not know about the soft top wind question. From what I remember on my cousins jeep, you just have to put up with it.

Yep, its loud. This ain't no Honda and you'll love the simplicty of you jeep.

There are quite a few people who have 35s on their jeep, so I think getting in and out is not a huge problem. I currently run 33s with a 3 inch body lift. I do not recomend a body lift but, I would imagine that you could stuff 33s in there with maybe as little as a 2.5 inch lift (no room for flex though). BDS is a good company that makes a 3.5" lift, and would work out well with 33s.

Also, if you get 33s, you can say good by to 85mph on stock gearing. That is another thing we should know, what engine and tranny your are running? I run 33s on my 4.0L, 5 speed, stock 3.07 gears and 5th gear is a bit useless.

Also, I think we all want to see some picture but, you have to be a paying member, or have 50 posts before the paying member rule. So if you pm the pics to someone, I am sure the will post them for you. You could pm me but, I might not get the up for a while.

Once again, welcome to the forum and remeber to wave

welcome. i like the look of 33s on a 4 inch lift, its not huge but its big enough. as for the top yes they are loud, aspecially on the highway. the bestop replace a top will help some but if u want it pretty quiet either get a hard top (1500$ new but you can find a used one for around 400) or get the bestop sailcloth top, they are 3x thicker and reduce noise quite a bit. but good luck with your new best, and rember the wave

Welcome aboard. There isn't a lot you can do to reduce wind interference. Keeping the hardware on the top tight and having a fairly new, taut, top helps some. Bestop provides very good instructions with the top; it should be very clear and easy to follow the directions.

Welcome...

1. 6 hr drive? that's a nice long "introduction" to the Jeep ride The same day I picked up my YJ, I loaded it down with camping gear and two mountain bikes and took off on a 5 hr drive to the Tx hill country to go camping. No top, no doors...it rained on us for part of the ride...but it was FUN!

2. Don't go over 65/70 mph, that might help with the door problem, besides, it's a Jeep

3. It will be noisy, it's actually less noisy without the soft top up IMO...no flapping and the creaks and rattles don't "bounce" around in the cab. Just the sound of the wind...very theraputic (sp?)

4. I can't really help with the top install, I just got mine on using trial and error and a little help from the place I bought it from...it wasn't too difficult. Try googling for an instruction write up

As far as making it less noisy. You could consider adding full doors, they may cost a pretty penny but I'd say they would help the most. Second, I'd make sure you ordered the heavier sail cloth top, I'd say a sail cloth top is as quieter than a hard top on YJ's.

Good luck with your Jeep and don't forget to wave.

you could also buy the under coat stuff and coat the inside of the wheel wells to try and have it cut down some tire noise.....

have some one line-x the inside of the tub, which should deaden some sound....

thanks guys. the only reason i was going 80-85 was to hurry and get home. now that she is home she won't see hardly any interstate miles just around town and thats it.

the wind noise isn't to terrible around town and i am sure a new top will help with that.

you need to buy something different if you want to drive 80-85.

half door problems.....do what I do....no doors..lol. I guess that only works when you live in a warm climate in the winter time. as far as tire size you can look at my profile pictures and see what 33's on a soa lift looks like....just some ideas.
welcome to the jeep family

The Bestop RAT was a good choice... Hopefully you went with the Sailcloth version. That will reduce a lot of the wind noise alone!
