If it is a 4 banger it has 3.73.
If it is a 6 banger it has 3.07

I thought 4-cylinders all had 4.10:1, and 6-cylinders had either 3.07 or 3.55:1...?

Actually ..

4cyl = 4.11 or 4.10 gears

6cyl = 3.07, 3.55, 3.73 gears

Mine, with tow package and all the extras has the 3.73 gears. My buddy that didn't have the tow package, but everything else has the 3.55 gears .. and another friend with the "cheap jeep" 6cyl has the 3.07 gears .. and he complains about it all the time!

If you look at the tag on the differential cover (if its still there), it will tell you which gears you have.

So if my diff tag is no longer there how do I determine what my ratio is? What are the different options that rated different gear ratios?

'94 4.0 5spd... 3.73, and not enough for the 31's I'm running much less the 33's going on.

Chock your front wheels and place the back of your jeep on jack stands. Put the tranny in neutral and turn the rear driveshaft by hand, counting the number of turns it takes for 1 complete rotation of the tires. You'll see either about 3 1/2 ds turns = 3.55, a little past = 3.73. Or you could pull your diff cover, count the teeth on you r & P and do the math.

My 87 has 3.07, if I remember properly. It was fine when it had 31s on it. I have an auto and 6 cylinder

Oh ya, I have the top model for 87 so I have all the options and still have 3.07s so you can't go by model.

I got an 87 4.2 5 speed and 3.07s. I am going to 3.73s. I know, I know 4.10s are better. I like the 3.73 ratio. It makes me smile.

lots of bad information and wrong guesses in here but I bet the OP has figured it out over the last 12 years.
