Exhaust Smoke after freeway drive
I replied to a thread with symptoms like mine in the cherokee forum- not sure how much cross pollinating there is so posting here as well.
I bought an 87 Wrangler today. Single owner- well maintained- 144k miles. 6cyl, 5speed.
Drove home- about an hour and a half on the freeway. Tach read 2-2.5 the whole time. Wife was following me the whole way.
After we got off the freeway I received a frantic call from her that the tailpipe was billowing smoke. By the time I answered the phone it was gone though- this is maybe 30 seconds and a quarter mile later. Engine seemed to be running smooth the whole time.
Thoughts? Should I be scared??
Were you stopped for a while at a light before the smoke? Leaky valve seals will do that. Too bad there is no way to know whether the smoke was blue, (oil), or white, (coolant), at this point.
Keep a eye on her.
It may be that your rig just needed to be blown out and the highway driving did it. I would not be to concerned about it at this time.
