Set up

2.5l and 4.0l

cherry bomb glass pack with the stock muffler.

Goal

Make it as quiet as possible

I've heard peoples views on double mufflers and how they create too much back pressure but does a glass pack really qualify as a muffler?

I was looking at the inside of one and its just a tube inside of a tube with holes around the inside. I can see how this would quite it down but will it create enough back pressure to hurt power?

Thanks guys.

I guess using a glasspack and muffler setup would be a lot like cars equipped with both a resonator and a muffler

if you don't care about performance then yes it will make the yj nice and boring...I mean quiet.

Will, I did it. Much quiet especially at high rpms and no notifiable loss in power.

I just ordered a '99 manifold, crossover pipe, cat, and OEM replacement muffler. Hoping its going to be real quiet. My other primary goal was to raise up the exhaust out of the stock YJ location, practically dragging on the ground.

Good choice. The TJ style downpipe is a far better design.

... Why get quieter? I love how mine sounds like it's got balls.

Sent from my phone because I'm doing something "more important"

My 89 is too quiet I can't hear the darn thing when driving. But a nice magnaflow catback and hi flow cat will help

Get some headers, tj pipe, straight pipe to a spintech then dump it at the axle. You'll crap your shorts. It's amazing. Low loud and mean all from a 4.2! Couldn't be happier. Sorry to hijack.

Hi way driving sucks. by the time I get to my destination my head feels like its going to split.

Its not so quite that you would confuse it with a prius but it is tolerable now. It sounds nice too, nice and deep with absolutely no hint of ricer. I'll post a video tomorrow

Yea a glass pack will kill ya with the drone. Hence the reason I ultimately decided against one. That and they all sound the same. Ricer slash blaaadadada sound. No offense.

Did you end up going with a muffler and glass pack? To me it won't hurt the low hp motors we run. If anything the added back pressure will help the torque down low. Where we want it.

Yup, I have the thrush glass pack straight to magna flow muffler dropped right before the rear axle.

I'm really happy so far

I have emission testing so I can't strait pipe it. I'll probaby go with the same cat and magnaflow muffler I have on my Xj its mellow while cruising but sounds like all the souls from hell are being let free when you get into the gas
