Alright, I'm in the process of changing out the horrible cracked exhaust manifold and for the life of me I cannot figure out how the power steering pump comes off. I guess the bracket is bolted onto the intake manifold and I need to relieve the tension on the belt but I cannot figure it out. I loosened all the bolts that I can see (I think it was 4) and I noticed no difference in the tension. There's a bolt on the drivers side below the pump that is very long and it's really difficult to loosen or tighten. I can't see where it goes so I'm pretty stuck here. Any help will be greatly appriciated, guess this is gonna be a long time affair here. Thanks in advance.
The long bolt is for adjusting the belt tension,Loosen up the bolt on the tensionor pully first and then you can turn that long bolt and loosen up the belt.
Alright. I just took off all the bolts and pushed off the belt. The thing was that I have no idea where the tensioner pully is. So I removed the whole bracket. I didn't do anything to that long bolt or anything else. So i have no idea if the tension is gonna be alright when I go to put it back in.
page 10-17 in the steering/suspension chapter has a detailed blow up of the pump bracketry and basically shows you what each bolt on there is doing. sometimes you have to go to other sections of the book to find the specifics of these things. to get the pump to tighten/loosen, first loosen the two slider bolts on the rear of the pump. loosen the nut that is on the bolt under the pump facing the front of the engine, the on on the long slot. then, turn the long adjusting bolt (the head of which is to the driver side) so that tension comes off the belt. not sure which way you'll have to turn it, but it should be obvious once you start. don't feel bad, took me an hour to figure out how to do this without the manual working on my uncle's ZJ one night.
AHHH, the steering section! D'oh! I was looking under the 6 cylinder engine section and the general section in the front. Thanks sentinal.
