Exhaust leak? And Fuel injector Question
1.Ok sounds like an exhaust leak, and faint smell after idling in cab of exhaust fumes. But when idling i cant hear the clicking noise, only happens it i get into the trouble hard. But slow acceleration it doesnt make the sound. Is it exhaust, and if so how hard is it to change gasket. I tightened the bolts already and everything was tight, cant see any visible opening alone the piping.
2. Previous owner said i would need to put a new fuel injector soon. I am not sure why but im guessing its never been replaced. 157,XXX miles. Does it need replacing, or what? Also my other question, is the injector inside the Carb/TBI unit.

i had a similar problem a year ago. i had exhaust coming into the cab through the dash vents for the defroster. it ended up being a bad head gasket.
to change the gasket, it should not be a difficult task whether it is the head gasket or exhaust manifold. you will, however, need to get a new set of bolts for either place you change a gasket (they say you should change the bolts each time so they will keep their tightness after being torqued down.) good luck ![]()

My 1990 YJ has a single injector in the throttle body.

look for a copy on the internet of your owner's manual, maybe it would have some more descriptions of the pictures

Take the air duct off the throttle body and look in the center. that is the injector. The duct hose goes from the air filter box to the TBI, resembles a carb.

yeah, like everyone is saying the injector is in the carb, the easiest way would to probably follow the fuel line to the injector. but before i go replacing anything id run some fuel injector cleaner through a tank first (b12 chemtool works awesome) b/c i dont know howd you can foresee a fuel injector failing.....
also if it is an exhaust leak that will cause the rig to run rich b/c of the extra oxygen entering your exhaust system |

It doesnt run that much rich, just its an annoying sound.
As for the injector i see what it is now, and that is true i dont know how you could foresee one going bad, how long do the original ones last time its time to replace them? |
