Didn't mean to steal your quote earlier, Burnerman.
I still don't know how to properly quote people in threads.
What can I say, I'm just special.

I Have a question.

After I removed my trac bars & sway bar, my steering alignment(?) immediately changed.
Before, my steering wheel was centered to go straight. Now I have to hold it about 1/6 of a turn to the right to point the Jeep striaght. Is my alignment off? Have you guys had this problem? It didn't happen until I removed that stuff.

Because your axle was probably being "held against it's will" by the track bar being "too short" since the RC 4" lift you have was installed. You probably have had it aligned with the lift & track bar installed, right? Once the track bar was removed, it was free to move back to bing centered, and it took the steering with it.

No biggie, just adjust the drag link to center the steering wheel, it won't affect the alignment at all.

Ah.
I haven't had the alignment done since the lift went on, which wasn't long ago.
Should I still do that adjustment? If so, how? Any write-ups for a visual learner?
I know, stupid questions. Still learning as I go here.

After reading this ENTIRE thread, I'm going to make my trash can happy by filling it with empty Corona bottles, and the rear trac bar.
I do want to keep the front sway bar tho'......

ssssoooooo.......

What quick disconnects are best bang for the buck? Air powered would be nice, but.....

I can't afford those snazzy TJ owner gizmos. I'm on a YJ budget.
So it's the basic bailing wire, duct tape, and tie wraps for me.

EDIT: And please don't ban me for bumping this thread up again!

It was a joke man. This thread has turned into exactly what I wanted it to be. people discussing the topic rather than creating a zillion different threads with the same topics.

I was just guessing on the alignment, most people have it done after a lift, although I didn't either!

Yes, do the adjustment. It won't affect the alignment. I don't know of a write-up, but it's easy to explain.

Look at the rod that runs from your pitman arm (the part attached to the bottom of your steering box) and you'll see it runs over towards the right front tire. Loosen the clamps on either end of the rod (drag link) and rotate the drag link. The tie rod end on one end is right-hand thread, while the other is left-hand thread, so turning the rod will effectively make the link longer, or shorter. Just lightly tighten the clamps & drive the Jeep around your neighborhood, stopping to adjust it one way or the other until your steering wheel is straight. Then when you're done, just make sure to tighten them up snugly.

There are no stupid questions, we all start someplace.

I can relate. I admin an Avalanche forum. Keeps me busy.

But I really do need to know what quick disconnects work best for the money.

My jeep has no problem keeping up with the faster cars on the freeway, and I do. It make's me nervous enough to remove the trac bar, but I have a newer rancho 2.5 inch lift with rancho springs. Hoping it's gunna' be OK.

Baby steps. My stock Avalanche 4X4 handles like a go-kart on the curves and high speed off road, and it rides like a Cadillac. (four wheel coil springs) So I'm used to that kind of handeling. Just skeptical about making changes to something the factory engineers did to make it safer.

Here's a pic I found on the internet. It's a TJ, but the same thing applies.

I understand your reasoning.

I have disco's on my wife's '93 that is SOA and the rocker panel sits 29.5" off the ground (stock is around 18") because she wants to feel safer too. But to be honest, I took her YJ out wheeling with some friends & forgot to re-connect it when I was through. She drove it a month & never noticed, and frankly I can't tell the difference either. It's just something else to have to mess with, and I'd rather not have to.
