my trackbars want to know if they can hang out in the blue trash can and drink a few cold ones? It seems they're fed up with my crawl space under the house.

i've been running with no trac bars in front and rear, and also no sway-bar for some time now. i'm occasionally on the highway, and even in cornering on the highway i cannot feel anything scary. i would say do it. and it free'd up a lot of flex for me

Track Bars And Sway Bar
Hey guys ive been really thinking, should i pull my track bars off i would leave my sway bar on though becasue i am scared of body roll then my jeep tipping over!
How are the driving habits? will extremely bumpy roads affect driving ability with out the track bars. Becasue here in quebec we are known to have the worst roads in canada... |

As you are probably about to be told, the majority of us YJ owners have removed our track bars. Many of us, myself included, have also taken off the sway bar. The handling is changed a bit, specifically, you will have a bit of roll/sway during turns. The ride will be smoother and you will have much more flex. If you remove your track bars & sway bar, you will not go tumbling off the road when there's a bend in the road. A lack of track bars will specifically make your ride on bumpy roads much smoother. What you may not know is that CJ's didn't even have track bars. Having said that, you do need to keep in mind that your vehicle is different. If you take that stuff off, I wouldn't advise taking a hairpin turn or an S-curve going 75mph. Personally, I find it a challenge to get my Jeep to go that fast at all.
Just take the stuff off. You can always put it back on if you don't like it, or get some sway bar disconnects. I was a little nervous and scared when I first took that stuff off. Then I drove my Jeep around the block and found that it still handles like a regular vehicle. Just go for it.

I think Joe_Dillard should post his picture of what he does with his Track Bars and Sway Bar.
I think that is a awesome picture! |

I've had my rear track bar off for while now. The ride was noticeably smoother. I just took the front off last week. It was also noticeably smoother.
When we started wheeling and I disconnected the sway bar and it was very hard to make corners along the road. At 40mph on a curvy road I did not feel comfortable. I stopped and reconnected the sway bar. Bottom line: Remove the front and rear track bar, you will see noticeable results. Leave the sway bar and if possible get disconnects so you can use them while wheelin.

Since we have at least three of these threads a week, I'll give Joe a break, and post the can for him.

Has anyone noticed if removing the track bars helps reduce bump steer? Who has done this with a 2" shackle lift? I know they are less than ideal but its a temporary thing.

Quick trac bar question
I know this was talked about like 5 threads ago but I want to expand on it. I have a 95 YJ. Its lifted 4'' and has 33''x12.5 on it and I'm thinking about removing the trac bars. I need a smoother ride! If I remove the trac bars, will my tires rub on the stock flares whenever I hit a bump in the road?

No, the track bar only centers the axle. If your were going to rub the flairs at every bump, you would already have that problem.
With a 4" lift, the springs are new enough that taking the track bars off will smooth out the ride. Just do it man.
