disadvantages to disconnecting sway and traction bars?

is it dangerous to disconnect traction bars and sway bars? i know some people drive like this daily, but can it damage your vehicle or make it the vehicle unsafe to drive?

besides adding flex capability, does it have any advantages? since i put my lift in, the ride has been rough as hell, can this give you a smoother ride?

My ride smoothed out...toss them, they aren't needed on a YJ...just like they aren't needed nor did they come on a CJ.

Oh and check your shackle bolt torque..too tight = too rough.

ditch the tracs and disco the the sways. that's the safest and best riding method.

The disadvantages you say? Well, my dentist has been complaining that I don't crack my teeth anymore when hitting big bumps in the road since I took mine off...

Yep, ditch em, no advantage to having them IMO. Just take it a little easy for a while until you get used to it.

Track Bars were the knee jerk reaction by Jeep engineers after
the Hugh roll over scare. The were added to stiffen the Jeeps
response and body sway to prevent future roll over events. When
adding a lift, pre-arched springs are pretty stiff to begin with so
there isn't a noticable difference when you ditch them. As for
safety, are they needed, No. I think most people that drive Jeeps
on the road know the limitations of their rig but there is always
someone who doesn't. Hence Track Bars were born.

on my YJ i had them out for a year, but put the front sway bar back in just recently because when fully loaded at 50+KM/H I would encounter a death wobble. and the more weight the vehicle had the worse it became.

track bars are redundant with leaf springs, because the leaves don't bend in that direction.

The sway bar still has a pretty significant role on-road though. Depends on how stiff your springs are, but if they're softer, or stock, then you will easily fall into a wild rocking side to side without it at higher speeds. I took mine off for about 2 months and put it back on, best decision I ever made.

Ride smoothed out once i got both track bars off though, and no negative side effects.

Get quick disconnects for the sway bar for offroad though, because it does limit flex.

ive read that homemade discos tend to fail pretty easily, does this happen with brand-name discos?
