Engine temp

I took my 1991 YJ for its first long drive yesterday. It has a after market temp gauge and it stayed at 222*. What is the normal engine temp for a 4.0L engine?

about 200-210 you might have a slight overheating problem.

X2...that's pretty dang warm.

1. thermostat
2. clogged radiator
3. water pump (but it would probably be making noise and leaking).

It looks as if I need a new radiator for my YJ. I work part-time at NAPA and get a discount on parts. The radiator from NAPA has a copper core but plastic tanks. It has a limited lifetime warranty. Has anyone used a NAPA radiator in their Jeep?

Mine usually runs rock solid at 200 unless I am heading up the mountains where it will hit 210 but drops down instantly to 200 as soon as I hit a downgrade ( that is with a 190 degree thermostat.) I bought a replacement rad at Advanced and it is 100 percent copper. I don't know if my 90 YJ is different then your 91 though?
