Engine Horsepower

Is it true the 4.2 liter (258) only has 115 horsepower? And the 4.0 liter has 160 hp or so? I saw this on some other post somewhere and thought this is sure underpowered. If so, will the 4.0 fit up the same as a 4.2?

thanks for any input..

The 4.2l has carbs and it's got a shade over 110 hp. The reason is that it's not made for high speed. It's a torquer made for low RPM balls. It's got almost as much torque as the 4.0l HO.
I have heard that a lot of people put the 4.0l heads/fuel injection on their 4.2l. Not sure what that does to the power.
I haven't driven a 4.2l, so I don't know how it compares to the 4.0

check out these 2 web sites, one compares the engines and the other gives you all the info you need to do a 4.0 head conversion on your 4.2,,, www.jeeptech.com & http://monsterslayer.com/jeep/40Head/40Head.htm

hope this helps.
