Engine Diagnostic Code

I am currently working on a friends '91 YJ that he sank in the river last weekend. I have changed all of the fluids including the fuel, replaced spark plugs, wires, filters, inspected distributer inside and out. The symptoms are running rough and won't idle when warm. The check engine light gives me the diagnostic code 24 which is "Throttle position circuit out of range".

Does this code mean anything to anyone, or has anyone troubleshot this type problem before? I really don't even know what a throttle position circuit is so any help at all would be appreciated.

Sound like the water could have damaged the TPS(Throttle Position Sensor) either the voltage is too high or too low, does it have the 4 or 6 cylinder? The testin is a bit different for the two, and so are locations.

Thanks for the reply. I found out that this TPS sensor was the problem. Swapped it out, and it runs like a champ. Thanks again!
