It could be many things. Distributor, coil, spark plugs, wires, or even a computer problem. My only suggestion is checking all those things one by one until you find the problem. Does all the power cut out or is it just the engine? If you're losing all power check the bettery connections and the alternator/voltage regulator.

Not the power just seems to loose engine spark.it will chug then small backfires if you give any gas. so it seems it is getting fuel. new wires 6mos. plugs, cap, rotor 8 mos.

It could also be that you're not getting enough gas, possibly the fuel pump. From what I hear some of the early 90's YJ's have problems with this. I think there is also a recall involving the fuel pump on some models. Turn on the ignition and listen to the fuel pump, if its unusually loud that may be your problem.

Thanks I'll give a lison after work.
I changed the gas tank about 2 months ago and didn't replace the pump. "du"
it does seem funny that it would not recover after idleing if it can recover after being shut off.
