Engine Cuts out at stop
So my buddy Just got an 89. The 258 is bone stock besides a fuel regulator and a Weber 2-bbl 32/36 carb. When he gets to a stop light or stop sign the Jeep putters and stalls out. Had the igntion system checked at sears and all was fine. We replaced the inline fule filter and it still does it. Where do we start? What could be wrong?
Thanks in advance! Josh

I would try turning the idle up or even re-tuning the carb and see if that helps. Also I would try cleaning it out with some carb cleaner.

Turning up the idle may keep it from dying, but may not be the answer to the problem. Set your idle to factory specs (maybe a tiny bit higher it is a 20 year old rig). The weber carbs are notoriously bad...period. Most will tell you to save money and aggrivation by swaping out to a Motorcraft before going any further down the trail
Are there any other issues we need to know. Is it auto or manual transmission.

From the FAQ
My carb'd Jeep keeps stalling when I hit the brakes - why!? - Welcome to the world of the early YJ. It is a well known problem and a complete PITA! To start, check all the vacuum lines around the carburetor. Any that are cracked or missing - replace. Once that is complete, if there is no change in the way the Jeep runs, try a simple repair as listed at JeepTech.com. If that doesn't work, then its time to visit a professional, or go the route of thousands of other Jeep owners and get rid of the Carter carb and replace it with a Weber carb .. you can find these carbs from E-bay (used) or new at many autoparts stores. For further information, you can also check this list of links directly related to the carburetor. If you want to know how they work, HowStuffWorks.com has the answers! The under lined stuff are links. Go the the FAQ to use them. It the first post about 2/3 down

Make sure your idle jet isn't plugged.
I have a 32/36 on my VW Beetle and it did the same thing one day and I pulled the jet and shot it with some carb cleaner and no problem since. Quote:
