I had this problem with my Jeep for about 10 years. I finally sprayed a bunch of wd-40 on the mechanism above the pedal, loosened it up and then "presto", it suddenly worked again.

I've adjusted the cable under the jeep where its tight with no slack and the shoes also to where they have resistance when turning do they need to be tighter and also what do I need to spray on the pedal assembly?

Check this site and see if the recall was ever performed on yours.

I have a 94 and the cable was to long to work. They fixed it no charge. But the cable is to long to work. They can't back down. Good Luck.
