Elmers Glue in my gas tank -- Advice.

I accidentally poured Elmer's Glue into my YJ's gas tank.
It happened because I found a bottle of Lucas engine cleaner lying around and I saw it filled with liquid. I don't know the color of Lucas, so when I saw the white liquid inside the bottle, I assumed it was Lucas and not glue.

So I pour it down the gas tank and then it smells like glue. However, before I stopped, some glue got into the lines, but I don't think it made it to the tank. The glue was rather thick, probably cause it was so old.

I cleaned up some of the glue in and around the gas tank and dismantled a few parts to get a better clean, but I did not remove the fuel hoses.

The amount of glue that got in is about a teaspoon of glue, if that. Help!

What to do here?

The gas will disolve it. Just drive on.

That small amount shouldn't cause any harm.
Elmer's is a water based glue and the worst that might happen is it will just lay in the bottom of the tank.
Take some gas in a jar and pour a little Elmer's in it and see what it does.

First off WOW you poured something in your tank before you knew FOR SURE what it was?

OK with that said it is probably a little late now but I would agree gas will disolve the glue. So I would go fill my fuel talk and by gas going into the tank any glue in the fill line will be disolved. Thats then drive around some so it will circulate through all the lines and break up any glue in the line

Do this before doing anything else.

If it disolves, great. If it clumps into a ball then you might have to drop the tank and clean it out.

good luck

I've poured some Elmer's Glue into a jar and mixed it with gas.

So far, the glue has dissolved very little and managed to turn into a very liquidy white substance that is beginning to show signs that it will dissolve.

I'll post updates.

Thanks for the help.

Didn't they used to make glue from old horses? I always heard the expression about sending them off to the glue factory. So, what better way to add horsepower directly to your engine.

Why take the chance. drop th tank and replace the filter while you are there. then make your tank a 20 gal by pulling the tube. Beats getting stuck later, and peace of mind is worth the two hours time.

Judging from your experiment your filter will plug up soon anyway.
