Electrical Gremlins

Good day folks. I a new owner of a 90 Wrangler, 4.2L. Went out to start it and the battery appeared dead. I jumped it and it started right up. Upon shutting it down, I noticed a faint glow from the "brake" and seatbelt lights. They remained dimly lit even after the key was removed. Also, it won't resart unless I jump it. As soon as the cables go on, it starts right up. Is there possibly an issue with a faulty or misadjusted ignition switch? At times I noticed, while driving, that the ammeter jumps around until it rap on the dash. Please help.

Unhook the wiring harness from the ingnition. Switch under the dash and see if the lights go out
