Hey guys, this morning I was on my way to work and as I pulled the ebrake the light stayed on and the pedal only came up about half way. It has done something similar before on cold mornings but never this. When I went to pull forward I had very little power, I could tell the brakes were dragging bad. So I put it in 4wd and it was back to normal at the end of the parking lot. I just want to know what I need to replace to make it work properly again. Recall has been done and I have replaced all brake components except for the ebrake cables and the brake lines. Thanks for any help

Could you pull the pedal the rest of the way up by hand?

I could but it would just drop down again, about half way. When I pulled it up by hand, well foot, the light would come off. So I thought I would hold the release handle and pump it to see if it would help, but it did not. I could push it to the floor, almost, then it would have tension on the return, but again only to about half way. It also did the same thing after work, but this time it did not grab at all, the pedal just stayed down a bit, enough to keep the light on.

Might be water in the lines freezing? Air in lines or a leak. The valve will sense a leak and the light will stay on.

I would get under the jeep and tap the connection between the cable and the brake mechanism itself. Its the only connection to the springs with the wheels on. Might be time for a brake upgrade.

I thought that these were just cable driven systems for the ebrakes? I could be wrong. With water in the lines, I feel that I would have more symptoms than this, such as spongy or saggy pedal. And just poor braking power period.

So you are thinking it may be crud and corrosion etc in the outer casing of the brake cables?

you have 3 E-brake cables that connect as one unit. loosen the adjuster and remove all 3 from the connector. pull each one by hand until you find which cable is binding up and replace it or just replace all 3. cheap easy repair. I doubt it's your rear brake shoes unless you put them on backwards and there dragging.

Getting underneath and finding the source is step 1. I usually just start prodding until I find it.

I put them on the way they came off so I will assume they are right. And I would loosen the adjuster, but I tried this once, it wasn't going to turn. Heat and pb blaster. I am still looking for a new one. But I will try and do this.

Buy a new connector plate and then check everything out. You may be able to check the cables while they're still connected but I couldn't. I had a bad cable locking up.

Yup both cables are locking up. I removed the equalizer so hopefully they free up, I'm going to have a set made here at work. Thanks for the help guys!

Got it all fixed up. New lines and I cleaned up the equalizer to look new. Problem solved.
