Driveshaft/Ujoint issues.
So, last saturday I started getting vibs, which is the very first time and then last sunday I guess I broke the ujoint and my driveshaft fell off. Well while wheeling yesterday it did the same thing, what could be causing this?

Might be time for an SYE and new rear driveshaft. That's what I would do at least.

Yeah, its not the most cost friendly. You have a t-case drop kit correct? You might can try a MML. Its not that cheap but its cheaper than the SYE. You used any shims on the rear axle?
The cheapest way for the SYE would be getting the kit for $180 and modifying an XJ front driveshaft.

Well i have a MML in my garage right now, so I will have to put that on soon and check on that. And idk what size shims or if I have any.

Take a pic of your driveline. It might help answer a few questions.

haha, man that sucks, taking broken bolts out of the yoke is a PITA! Anyway, its wierd that you never had a problem until now, and now it has happend twice in a row... you havn't changed anything on your vehicle recently? Small lift? Anything? Of course you need a SYE, but you shouldnt be throwing driveshafts every day after having no issues for so long...

Nope no lift at all, I havent done anything to it for a while. I have a Bodylift and Motor mount lift in my garage but never installed it. So really i have no clue at all what could have caused it. :/

Yea man thats really interesting, inspect your driveshaft to make sure its still got the factory weights on it, also make sure its not dented, finally, pull it off and eyeball it as best you can to see if either yoke is bent... If any of these were the case you should have vibration while you are driving... So it makes the whole thing even stranger lol... Again, you need a SYE, but still, I had 4" spring over conversion with 2" springs, 1 and 1/4" shackles and a t-case lowering kit, I had BAD vibration while driving, but never threw the shaft, much less throwing two within a close period of time lol...

Yeah, ill go down right now and check it out, I have both the yolk and the driveshaft off. I will have to check around the house to see if I have anything that i can sell to get the money for sye. haha
Also were will these weights be?

The weights look like bent washers that will be welded to the driveshaft lol... if you dont see any, then you should at least sell some flack left over from the welds that used to hold it/them on... My driveshaft has 3 seperate weights on it haha but most only have one from the factory. i've seen em' come from the factory with NONE...
However an offbalance driveshaft will be a beast and a half to drive around, ESPECIALLY if the balance is so off that it will throw a new ujoint in a couple of days. |

With no lift I don't know why you would be tearing up driveshafts. When you get a chance, post those pics because you shouldn't be tearing them up so much.

![]() Exactly, the reason I say you need a SYE anyway, is because it will save your transfercase one day... but thats a whole nother subject... Just like he said, you shouldn't be throwing a driveshaft that often without major lift and even worse angles, again, I had 6+ " of lift on my jeep and didnt have a SYE for about half a year and never thew mine... |

Two weeks before I was scheduled to bring my newly lifted jeep back in for an SYE and shaft maker, I blew the rear u joint and the yoke, Spent $250 to fix that so I could drive it for the two weeks.
