Driveshaft U-joints

Ok...so i'm putting in my 8.8, and wanted to change out my u-joints.

i cant get the rear rear driveshaft u-joint out. i've got it propped up, beating it w/ a hammer. i've got it disconnected from the pinion (and there were no needlebearings OR grease in the unjoint, btw). but i propped the ds up on a jackstand and block of wood, and pounding it with a hammer but it wont budge.

any suggestions?

the slip yoke is still in the tcase... (pulled it out once accidently....then stuck it back in before too much fluid leaked out, but i've got more fluid on hand if it's better to just pull it out). so....

i dont have any idea. it doesnt seem to want to budge.+

help?

you definitely want to pull the shaft out of the t-case before you go beating on it. there's no way you'll get the leverage you need without having it on solid ground. if they're really stuck in there it can take a full swing with a 3 lb sledge to get them loose. you did remove the retaining rings right?

haha, yeah I removed those rings.

I just got a big c-clamp and started using that and a socket to force it out, it moved a little bit.

but i guess i'll go ahead and pull the driveshaft out.

is there anything i need to know about putting the slip yoke back in the t-case? or does it just slide back in?

TIA

The slip will just slide right back in.

These aren't necessarily driveshaft u-joints exactly, but a u-joint is a u-joint so these two writeups of mine might help give you some tips:

Changing Wheel joints

Rebuilding a CV Driveshaft
