Door/tailgate lock

New here, howyadoin, thanks. Is there a separate key for doors and tailgate? I only got 2 ign keys with my 90 YJ, they only work in ign. I have half steel doors.

Should be the same key for ignition, all doors, console, and glovebox...

I have 3

1 for the doors and tailgate (also 'glove box' in dash) .. round headed key.
1 for the ignition .. squared headed key
1 for the center console .. round headed key
I don't have keys for my 1/2 doors .. but who does ??

I only have 1 key.
Works to start it, works on the half doors, works on the tail gate, and my glove box doesn't lock, and my console is a custom.

Sounds like it's a Chebby...disguised as a Jeep. I bet it has square head lights too. Just Kidding

TO THE ORIGINAL POSTER...
I have one key for all
Probably the rear gate lock is froze up from road yuck. Mine does it a lot.
try putting some PB Blaster and the WD40 or white lithium in it, see if you can free it up.

I think that stock is to have one key, at least for Mopar Jeeps, it's a Chrysler thing I think. (Correct me if I am wrong.) I would say to take the locks from the doors, etc out and deliver them to a lock smith to have them set the pins to be the same as the ignition.

Looks like the earlier YJ's use 2 keys, so far its 93 and up use 1 Guess I'll remove the tailgate lock and take it to a lock smith and hope it also fits doors, don't know why I care, I never lock them anyway. Just want to make it proper.

earlier YJs do have a Chevy ignition and door locks.. the old Oval key for the door locks and the rectangle for the ignition.

my old 87 didnt have cylinders on teh doors at all.. so i only had a tailgate lock. but all three should match if you do have them. if they dont, you can buy a new cylinder for $10 each so $30 would get you new locks.. probably a little more that taking to a locksmith, but most likely easier and less hassle.

Hey Cueball,

Since your parting out that 87, how much for 3 lock and a key?

i have a 92 with only one key. Key works on the ignition, doors, tailgate and glove box. But over the years the doors locks stopped working so now the key opens much less.

i didnt have a locking glove box, so i got one out of a jeep in a junkyard, took the lock apart, and filed down the pins so that it worked with my door key. thats probably the coolest thing i have done to my jeep, and its not that hard!
