Doing the self posi lock do i need the c clips

I am in the process of doing the homeade posi lock. I did the whole removal of the diaphram and am geting ready to put it back togeather. My question is do i need the clips to go back on the shaft and the little rubber o ring. When i am done the fork should move freely on the shaft right? Thanks for the help

You will need the c clips to hold the shift fork in place. The fork actually stays stationary on the 1/2" rod going through it. The rod itself is the thing that moves.
