I am very satisfied with the performance and glad I did the swap. I'm doing another one this weekend on a 4cyl, hope it goes just as good in the end since I know exactly what needs to be done now. I appreciate evryones help and as far as the motor goes for anyone reading or interested, the flywheel from a 1987-1990 cherokee motor will not work for 1991 through 1995 ecm and harness save yourself the trouble and get a 92-94 motor and harness and make sure at the bulkhead connector you don't have a purple and white braided wire, this is a clear indication that the harness and ecm have a security system and cannot be used
those just have to be tied together to make them to work.

A 89 yj with a 4.0 aw4 sye out of an 92xj. Now the hard part is done time to get it up in the air just a bit. Working on 8.8 with 3.73 and lsd for the rear. and new D30 hp with 3.73 .
For those who have not figured this out I'm old school but can handle the new too.

The vss is just a pass through for the the cable side. Will it screw on where it comes out of the TC?

cevans87, Did you ever take any pics of your swap? I'd like to see them if you did.

The cable output of the 91 VSS is 5/8" instead of 7/8". Your options are to order a '91 YJ speedometer cable that has the 5/8" at the T-case end, or use an adapter.

Adapters can be found at the junkyard in early (pre-'91) YJs and XJs that have cruise control. The speed sensor for the cruise computer on those vehicles is located behind the dash, inline with the speedo cable, about a foot from the gauges. That speed sensor uses 5/8" thread on one end, so there will be an adapter from the factory that connects it to the vehicle's 7/8" cable. The one time I tried to get one though, the cable was so rusty that I couldn't get the adapter out without destroying it... you might have better luck though.

Also, you can call up www.speedometersolutions.com and order a 5/8" to 7/8" adapter for like 6 bucks.

Great Thread! Just finishing up my 4.2 to 4.0 head and MPI swap. Have some questions about the wiring, but need to dive in a little more first.
