Does a 92 YJ Jeep wrangler have a galvanized body?
I Have a 92 Jeep Wrangler YJ and it has rust holes on the fenders, inside the wheel wells on the driver side. And a few under the floors pans, I want to fix this myself but I wanna know if these panels are galvanized or not. Anyone know if they are?
I think the body or at least certain parts of it were galvanized. When I removed the roll bar, hinges, etc. during the tear-down it sure looked like the unpainted body underneath them was some type of galvanization.
this is one thing I've never understood. If the bodies on our rigs are galvanized, why the hell are so many of them rusted like Mater?
Because there's only so much a fast and loose factory galvanization process can do.
My jeep is 19 years old, and has spent its entire life in Chicago, land of overzealous salt trucks. My frame and large portions of my body were both rotted through by cancerous rust. Nothing you can do, really. I tore it down to the frame, welded in new steel everywhere I could, then a nice fresh POR-15 job ought to keep her solid for another ~20 years.

I was just thinking about that. A long time ago my dad and I rebuilt a 90 YJ to surprise my grandpa for Father's Day to take up north and I remember it being rusted to **** and he didn't say anything about it being galvanized. But if my 92 is galvanized then why is it so rusted through
Take a look in the stickies for the stock specs. I believe in 92 they started galvanizing some of the body and 95 had everything galvanized. But I am going off memory here so I could be wrong on the 92s.
Okay I'll look that up. I bought this thing for 1600 and I didn't get a manual or anything with it. It's in pretty good shape for 1600 only has 147k on the dash original engine and trans no problems with either so its a project
