Do these cross hatches look good?

Need to make sure these look good before I drop the pistons in

Im not an engine builder but they look deep? Might be just the flash making it look that way. The engines I have seen usually require a closer look to see the cross hatching. Just my .02

Hard to tell from a picture. But they look deep to me too, and too close to radial around the bore. Like you needed to move the hone faster up and down relative to the RPM.

I'm judging depth by comparison to the top of the deck. The bores should look pretty close to that.

You can feel them, but not by much. I used a rental kit from the auto parts store that attaches to a drill

Looks like your hone is too coarse... and your not moving it up and down fast enough... that and put LOTS of hone oil to it :)

Re did them again. This time took some of the tension off of the hone so it would be lighter and used more ATF

They look a little too deep and too closely spaced. I would suggest a Ball Hone in a variable speed drill. I always used Brake Kleen as a lubricating medium. Top of bore to bottom cycle every 2-3 seconds

Check this link out, damn impressive, lol:wave:

Here's a new pic

looks like your using a straight hone? Try a fine grit ball hone instead... that and flood the heck out of the cyl with lubricant... what your using is too coarse and isn't getting you the finish that your looking for...

If you are just trying to put a cross hatch in it you should try to get or rent a ball hone.
Those look too deep imo.
This is what a cross hatch from a ball hone looks like

Did the hone you rent look like this?

Yes it did look just like that one. So I need a ball hone?

Did you check the bore tolerances? Hard to tell from pics alone, but the cylinders look like they might have some issues.

Rino1425 11-08-2013 06:59 PM

Yes, they were good. I really didn't even have rings at the ridges

If they didn't they do now.

Visual doesn't matter. Did you measure them ? And then measure them again after they have been honed to death ?
