Do you have a DEATH WISH... Most guys on this forum discuss how to replace or at least beef up the Stock Cage as well as better belts... California has seat belt laws for driver + passengers.

Even if you are building a Mall Crawler you want at least the Factory Sport bar. If your Wrangler rolls without one you are pretty much toast.

Why would you want to take your cage off?

Doesn't make any sense to take a vehicle that is already bad at handling, and making it less safe, specially if you drive around the freeways of Southern California that are full of aholes and people who dont know how to drive.

In all states, your Jeep must be equipped with both a lap belt and a shoulder belt at a minimum. There are even tensil and shear strength guidelines that they must meet to be DOT approved... assuming you plan on driving this Jeep upon any public road.
If it's to never leave your private property, you can take anything and everything related to safety off of it that you wish.

True

You can be cited for not having your belt as well as any passenger + each passenger over 16 can be cited, you can also be cited for failing to maintain properly operating belts.

Seems like an awful expensive way to learn to keep the belts in the vehicle.

After you remove the cage, you don't need seatbelts... or seats for that matter.

After you remove seatbelts - what's more dangerous?

I say take the seats out too and sit on some gas cans. Maybe a box of dynamyte for the back seat.

Who needs interior lights? I say get some candles!

Brakes? Come on...

I believe the seat belt law was federally mandated in 1965 or 1966. That means that any passenger vehicle manufactured after that time has to have seat belts by law.
Whether or not only lap belts are OK I don't know.

You're right and then sometime in the late seventies I believe it's mandated to have lap and shoulder belts.

DOT mandated seat belts in 1966. I have a '65 Chevelle and the owners manual doesn't even address seatbelts. I insalled them in the front 10-15 years ago.(no baby seat in that car!!!) Happy Wheelin'
