Dip Stick

Ok guys. I know we are all going to be professionals here. I know that my 2.5 91 Jeep is supposed to hold 4 qrts of oil. It takes 5 qrts to meet the full mark on the dip stick. I bought my jeep from a used lot who got it from Florida. I know that the PO did some things to it. Had 31 tires, made the tank a 20 gallon and etc.. I do not know if I have a different dip stick than stock or if I have a different oil pan than stock. Can someone measure the length of their 2.5 dip stick and give me the measurements? I have been going 4.5 qrts just to be on the safe side but if it is too much oil, I know that is bad for the seals.

Thanks in advance...

Who out there is going to measure their dipstick to compare to this guy's?

I'd measure mine, but it is certainly larger than yours as I am running the 4.0L and it wouldn't be a fair comparison.

It uses a regular size oil filter. I also looked at the dip stick to make sure that it had NOT been broken and the PO fixed it thus making it shorter.

If that is the case, Go back to using 4Qts. You don't want to keep running too much in there.

Edited my last post. I meant to say: had NOT been broken and fixed thus making it shorter.
Sorry for the confusion Rusty..

Well, I appreciate that. I know is is still early. Gotta be some 2.5vers out there that will help me out. I have a long trip to the 4WD park in Arkansa next month so I want to make sure I have everything ready for my first trail riding.

My dipstick measures 23 5/16" of exposed metal (from tip to bottom of dipstick handle) & 2 1/4" from tip to top of safe zone
Mine holds a little over 4 quarts to get it to the full mark (high side of safe zone on dip stick) that's including a new filter when changing the oil

Do you have the original oil pan? Or is it dented in? Either could change the capacity
