decision to make need help, locker, axles

Ok,

Got my brand new alloy 30 spline axles, HAD a powertrax no slip on order 30 spline...but now they dont make them anymore! So im stuck with 30 spline axles and only the choice of detroit or arb. This was supposed to be a repair/upgrade not an overhaul.

I could send back the axles and just replace the spider gears for like 75 bucks.

I could get an aussie locker for my stock axles. I could get chromolly 27 spline axles.

i could get an ARB/Detroit to use with these 30 spline. to much $$$$

What would you do??? Besides replace the whole axle....

dana 35 axle. Im looking to maybe find stronger axles w/ aussie locker for 27 spline, they have NO 30 spline lockers except detroit or ARB

my advice is not to bother with the 35. if you lock it, you WILL break it. If your going to spend that kind of coin, i suggest swapping to a stronger axle. You should be able to get a ford 8.8 from an explorer at a junkyard for under 200 bucks. I got mine out of a 99 explorer at the local pick n pull for 130 bucks. had disc brakes, 3.73s and a limited slip. the 8.8 is 120 times stronger than the D35 and its almost a direct bolt in swap. I have mine stuffed with an ARB, Yukon 4.10 gears, andf a Warn diff skid. At some point i will get chromoly shafts for it. but they really arent entirely necessary but for the fact thast i will be going to 37s with steel beadlocks and them suckers are heavy!

As my axle is now, I only spent about a grand on it. thats about the same price as the super 35 kit will run you, but you still wont have disc brakes in the rear

while its true the pinion is offset. Its not an issue. I have never heard of anyone having a problem resulting from that, and I have not had a problem resulting from that. And in my opinion the swap was well worth it.
