Dead seatbelt latch

Hey guys,

The pushbutton on my driver's seatbelt latch is dead. It feels like the spring behind it is gone or something. The tang from the belt goes in but it won't latch.

Is it possible to disassemble this thing somehow? Or if not, is there a good source on the net for a replacement? I only need the short receiver part on the right hand side, not a whole new belt with a retractor and stuff.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
Layth

That's a great idea. Has anyone out there replaced their stock belts and want to sell me a driver's female part? If so, let me know what you want for it.

I checked a couple junk yards around here and they don't have anything.

I'd pop for an entire replacement, but I don't want to bother tearing out the whole retractor and everything.

If I can find just the driver's side female part that'd be awesome!

Well your stock belt should latch into the femal end of a Ford Crown Victoria, as long as it's older than 2003. I'm sure you can find one of those and then get an extender if it's too short. BTW, I just found this out today.

Crown Vic, huh? Thanks for the heads up! I knew I'd seen that kind of latch before. I think my old 90's Bronco had the same style now that you say that.

Thanks again for the tip!

Not exactly sure this is safe and all but thisis what i did.
I ordered the 2 point seatbelt off quadratec and the 6 inch extender. I cut the threads on the original seatbelt belt that hold it to the base retractor thingy. I removed the male portion from the belt. I cut the threads off the new seat belt, removed the male portion and placed it on the old belt. I then reattached the belt to the retractor. I used a heavy duty thread and followed the thread holes from the where the original thread was. Make sure the seatbelt belt is not twisted. I then removed the old seatbest femal part and put in the new one with the extender. The extener does not come with a bolt to attach it to the seatbelt so you will need to go to ace hardware or similar and buy a new bolt and nut. I got a grade 8 one seeing as it is a safety feature. Thats what i did. I found it to be cheaper than buying a new 3 point seatbelt. Plus quadratec didnt have the faded greenish seatbelt belt color. I know, its a jeep, it doesnt matter, but it would just bug the hell out of me. Anyway, i havent had any tearing or anything doing it this way. The only thing is that the 2 point male part doesnt have any friction to hold it in one place on teh belt so it slides to the floor when i take the seatbelt off.
