Dead gauges

I have an 89 Wrangler, 4.2L that I just purchased. All of my gauges are dead except my oil pressure. Are there any common problems that arise with these before I go digging in head first? I dont have the money to upgrade to after market gauges so if I can get these to work, that would be sweet.

Thanks for your help and hopefully someday I will be able to return the favor.

check by the parking brake pedal for a ground wire screwed to the tub... i think that has something to do with the oem gauge functions...

remove the gauge assembly and check the contacts for corrosion...

Also while removing it, disco the battary so you do not fry the printed plastic board on the back of the gauges.

Just an update on what I found to be my problem.

Where the main wiring connector snaps into the cluster, the piece of plastic that would sandwich the contacts between the cluster and the harness was broke off, leaving a bad connection. I fixed that with a piece of plastic and used epoxy to keep it in place.

Next I found that all the little copper contacts that the gauges connect to were corroded and nasty. A bit of light sand paper and it all works like new now.

I hope this may help someone in the future. Thanks for your help, --Garrett
