Dana 44's

Finally landed some axles for my YJ. I'm getting a pair of 44's out of a late 80's wagoneer. They have the manual locking hub's and are the correct drop that i'm, looking for. Is there anything else i'm going to need for the install. Other than the spring perches and hardware. They are getting a set of 4.88's installed right now, so I haven't seen them yet. I was wondering about steering and brake lines. Thanks in advance.

I just installed a front 44 in mine. The brake lines will bolt right up to the new calipers. I used the pitman arm from the wagoneer and worked fine for me. Shocks will bolt up no problem as well. It will require about an inch cut off of the driveshaft. I just moved my axle up enough to let the stock driveshaft fit.

I'm going to go SOA. Not sure if it would work, but I'd like to move the tie rods on top, like a flip kit.

To do it right you will need flat top knuckles.
Your 44 could already have them.
Read through this.

If you want to have both the tie rod and drag link you will need flat tops on driver and passenger side.

Mine is from an 85 model and the tie rods were factory on top.

The front mounting width will be about 3/4" too wide. Stock YJ 30.75, Waggy 31.5
Options:
1. force the springs out and bolt them in. This works but looks cheesy and eats bushings.
2. buy (or copy) a kit like this http://www.davescustomsunlimited.com...fwakit-yjc.htm
3. I use a SR kit for full width axle (similar to this http://www.wfoconcepts.com/pr/-Jeep-...-Reversal/4329 ) Then used a 3/8 spacer top and bottom on the shackle.

If doing, SOA expect a bit of grinding on the pumpkin for the new spring perch.
