cruise control on YJ

I have been thinking about installing cruise control on my YJ being that I sometimes take it on long road trips (weekends). I got a kit from The Cruise Control Store.com, costing about $225.00 which replaces my turn blinker / intermittent wiper control arm for the control. After several hours of installing, which included taking apart the steering column to run the wires I ended up with a fully functional system that really makes road trips a lot more enjoyable. Having a 8.8 with 4.11 and 4.0 engine really helps holding speed while going up hills and into the wind. A worthwhile investment for anyone who cruises to their offroad ventures instead of hauling on a trailer.

Can you post a pic? I've been considering doing this as well. Would love to see it.

keep your eyes open and they came stock also. my 87 came with cruise from the factory and its still on it. my cruise looks just like a cruise control from a cherokee but i have not compared part numbers to verify.

the cruise control store. will have to remember that. i love cruise control

I don't feel like working on anything, at this time.

My dad had a manual s10 with cruise, do both the clutch and break pedal cancel the cruise?

I will get pics tonight with all the info . There is a disconnect kit for the clutch as well, but I chose not to install it being I don't use the cruise in traffic. It sure beats having your foot fall off the gas pedal because of the angle and placement of the gas pedal

FL roads are flat. Just put in a hand throttle, $10 worth of bicycle parts.

Sure you can put in a hand throttle, but if you want to make your Jeep as nice as oem, you would opt for this mod. You can also cut out the floorboards and pull a Flintstones for propulsion, but I choose an engine. Just depends on how many "rigs" you want on your buggy.

I like cruise control and miss it as I don't have it on my jeep. My main reason for liking it is that I can set it and not worry about gaining speed and getting a speeding ticket. That has been its main benefit to me.
A hand throttle would not maintain a steady speed here in Vermont...

How many old threads actually convince *you* to read all 36 pages? http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/length-envy-build-thread-629700/

How long would it have taken you to post the result?

I don't think I'd like cruise on my YJ. Maybe I'm still getting used to the shorter wheelbase, but I feel that cruise control allows you to be more easily distracted from driving, and I *don't* want that happening when I'm tooling at 70 in the YJ.

Glad you like it though. One of the great things about jeeps, you build your's, I build mine, and we're both right!

I wouldn't use it in traffic. Michigan has rolling hills, so sometimes you have to downshift to maintain speed.
Would be nice on the 5 hr drive to deer camp.
