I have a '89 Wrangler that has sprung a coolant leak through one of the hoses that comes off the Thermostat housing. It is not he large hose that connects to the radiator. It is the thinner one that runs to the intake manifold. It looks very old and needs replacing. It is a formed hose. I went to NAPA and they dont have it listed in their database. Then I called a Jeep dealer and they said the hose has been discontinued. I've looked on rockauto.com and I think I might have found something but I'm not sure.
It is under Jeep/1989/wrangler/ 4.2L 258cid L6 2BBL (M) OHV or 4.2L 258cid L6 2BBL (T) OHV/cooling system/coolant hose. I'm not sure if my jeep is an (M) or a (T). I dont even know what that designations mean but I do know its a 4.2L. Also, I think the hose is the ACDELCO Part # 16195M. I'm in doubt because the photo does not show the curve in the hose.
If anyone of you own an '89 to early 90's jeep and know this hose, please let me know where I can find one or what I can use as a replacement. The hose bends up and toward the grill to avoid the top of the engine and then goes down toward the intake manifold.
I have seen these nifty little spring like things at Advance auto that you use on a regular hose that puts a curve into it without it kinking(keeps just enough tension). I cant of exactly what they are called but one of them would definately work since thats what they are made for. I will end up picking one up myself as soon as I need to replace that hose since hose by the foot is way cheaper than formed hoses.
I used standard 3/4" heater hose from NAPA and I did use one of those spring things. Worked great! I only needed the spring on the supply to the manifold. The other heater hoses had no tight bends
Awesome pic burner I was wondering how they would look installed, thats the route Im gonna go when I have to replace mine. Do you leave your PCV valve open like that all the time? any issues with it being like that. Sorry for hijack folks.
if you can't get a hold of the spring for that hose, you can get a generic piece of hose with a molded 90 degree bend in it and cut the rest to length. that's what i did anyway, works very well.
mine blew and bursted at a gas station one time. but lucky me the parts store was across the street so i bought some heater hose and cut it long and used zip ties and snugged them up where it curves and it worked fine i just use that for now since it works fine lol
If you can find any of the above use some 3/4" copper tubing make your bend and couple pieces of heater hose and clamps for the straight parts. Less to go wrong this way.
A friend suggested something like that. Maybe I'll try that or go with the suggestion of getting a 90 degree formed heater hose and cut to the length I need. But wouldn't it touch the top of the engine? Last night I took a 2.5-3 ft heater hose and just looped it around so it wouldn't touch the fan or engine. Works fine, no crimping or leaking but it does not look good/permanent. Anyways, great suggestions guys. I appreciate the help. It's great to see some '89s out there. You don't see them much around here. Ride on!!
I just found one at Autozone that had a similar shape and length (a small zigzag to it too, but hey, it fits) and used it with some slight trimming, I think. I have no idea what car it is supposed to go to, but I may still be able to read the number on the tag if you'd like it
Edit: you can see it here:
I just looked at the tag and it said 4422 for anyone interested. I just checked Autozone's site, and it's $10.99
