I'm not sure which year the cutoff was, but some of the earlier fuel injected YJ's were TBI, and the later ones were MPI. I would guess you would just need to find a computer from one with the same type of injection system.
But maybe they were all interchangeable like Leans said. But I'd look into that since I could see there being a big difference between a computer controlling 1 injector and controlling 4.
Yes 91-95 4.0L all use the same style of computer and same injection system. He would need to get the same style of computer also nfor his 2.5L. I am not 100% on the years of the 2.5L injection types either. I know that 93-95 are MPI but not sure of the one's before that.

Hey I happen to have two spare 2.5 YJ computers so if you are looking for one hit me up with a PM. I was having O2 sensor issues so I bought one off of CL. Then a week later my my buddy put in a 5.2 in his 2.5 so I got his computer. It turns out my O2 sensor woes were in the harness itself (swapped computers and problems did not go away, but PCMs known good as my 94 2.5 runs fine on all three!).

Any 2.5 with mpi system will work including the XJ's trans has nothing to do with the ECM. this widens your field up a lot for tinding one.
A 89 yj with a 4.0 aw4 sye out of an 92xj. Now the hard part is done time to get it up in the air just a bit. Working on 8.8 with 3.73 and lsd for the rear. and new D30 hp with 3.73 .
For those who have not figured this out I'm old school but can handle the new too.
