Cold Weather and 4 WD

My yj doesnt want to go into 4 wheel drive when it is VERY cold out under 20 or so degrees. I have noticed this twice now, any ideas what causes this when it warms back up temperature wise it wokrs fine. I have tried to let the car get warm leave it running for twenty or so minutes no luck any ideas?

water in transefer fluid making it freeze could be a reason, drain the fluid in the t case and put some new automatic tranny fluid in it. I could be wrong so correct me anyone who knows this better than i do

When I warm the Jeep up on frigid winter days I put the t-case in neutral and the tranny in 2nd. That way it spins both gear boxes and warms them up too.

if it doesnt go into 4wd it wont go into neutral becasue u have to go through 4wd to get to the N position....assuming the shifter doesnt move

Yep, its a stick and I do that to warm it up whenever its really cold. I see you're close to here so you're getting the frigid weather now too. Its -5 and dropping fast right now with it supposed to much colder tomorrow.

Ok so have narrowed it down I think their might water in the vacuum lines wich is why the light doesnt come on and it doesnt engage but i can still shift the transfer case. If I were to get rid of the vacuum system is this waht i need to put on it http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-...spagenameZWD1V And how much might it cost to pay someone its too damn cold right now to put it on my self and I dont know a whole lot.

You know the install on mine was really easy. You remove the housing off the passenger side of the front axle and the vacuum lines. Install the new housing and cable and attach to the shifter fork. Hook up 4wd light wires (which I skipped) route the cable up through the firewall after drilling ( I think it was a 3/4") hole. Mount shifter assembly under dash and adjust cable. The whole thing took probably an hour and a half. If you have a garage space to work and the proper drill bit to go through the firewall its really pretty easy.
