27 is usually caused by a loose injector plug or corrosion inside the plug.

all 6 injectors are firing i am leaning to the cause being related to what is causing the relays to go out/overheat.

the jeep is running fine at the moment, but something caused those relays to go.

i inspected ALL the wires in the engine bay and underneath and found nothing. i removed the fuel pump relay and cleaned all the slots and closed the gaps. i then drove the jeep for 1hr and 20 min with no problems. i did notice that the fuel pump relay is hot to touch. it won't take the skin off but its hot. is that normal?

Having this code too. I replaced my gas tank last week but used the same pump and sending unit. All wires are good inside and outside the tank. I swapped in a new fuel pump relay and fuse as well. I guess I'll check injector wires but I didn't touch those. Figuring it's gotta be something I did during the swap

Try pull the battery cable to clear the codes and see if it comes back.

I have driven the yj a few times since my last post. I changed the battery to an optima (starts faster) and the fuel filter (gas flowed through pretty fast). The relay doesn't get as hot. But the code 27 appears on start up but goes away after about 2 min. I do have a turbo but its been on there for about 3 years. All injectors are firing so..................

Come on, pics and more info! Inquiring minds want to know. I am surprised you are able to run a turbo with OBD 1 and a stock controller.

The injector is looking at timing and the injector pulse. Maybe a loose timing chain.

That is absolutely awesome. Check for timing chain slack.
