Clutch problem ?

Hello Yj jeepers, my friends son Just bought a 89 yj Islander with the 258 straight 6. it runs great, i got to drive it last night. The only problem with it (besides the Michigan Cancer) It grinds gears every time you up shift or down shift. I was hoping some one would have an answer.
