Clunking in rear, dana 35

Just replaced rear diff assembly because the other was shot. Replaced with used unit. Checked it out thoroughly before installing and everything was tight and the oil was clean. Everything being bolted in drove it in parking lot and getting a severe clunking. Can't seem to figure what triggering it. Does not happen often, maybe three/four times in 5 minutes. Help.....

Could be loose u bolts, mine was doing the same and with the 35's i figured it was heading out. One afternoon I crawled under there with a deep 3/4 socket and a 3' breaker bar and re torqued all of the u bolts. No more cluck.

Check the u bolts and u joints. Did you forget to install any shims between the springs and spring pads if you have a lift.

If it has tracks, tires or tits, its gonna cause a problem.

Man I was in the Army and had to deal with tracks. You are 100% correct on that statement...all of them require the use of advil!!!!

Ha, your the first person who commented on that line...

Heavy equipment mechanic for a while... When a Cat D9N throws a track, and its 15* out side, and the only excavator around has no windows, you quickly learn to hate tracks.

Tracks are great until a machine throws one. lol.
