close to giving up desperate for help

Long story short, never buy a vechile off of Ebay, honesty seemingly is a word that is as thrown around and as meaningless as love. and when a deal seems to go to be true it proably is. I need a frame for my 1990 yj. The dealership who did the final estimate said the truck is unsafe to drive and they themselves recommended selling it out for parts or to a junkyard. They also said the frame is so bad shape they make any of the of the other repairs they need to do to it. Look i have 4 months left in afghanistan then im heading home, this was my gift to myself, and im already on the brink of giving up on it, anyone that could hlp me, i will pay for your services if needed. thank you

There are fixes for rusted frames on the market. Tell us what the frame problems are?

Oh man, that sux. Maybe you could find another 88 to 90 YJ in your area without an engine and move your parts to it. That is if your engine is good. Maybe even get a 2nd opinion if you haven't already, no telling when you run into someone who is just hurting to make a sale on a new vehicle. Your insurance company may know someone reliable to take it too.

What help are you looking for?

Doing a frame swap is a lot less work than you might think. The tub is only held on by 11 bolts. There are hardly any wires that connect to the frame. Leftlanetruckin has a full write up in the FAQ on all the steps.

If I was close enough I would. My recommendation is look for a donor YJ and make 1 out of 2.

I have a jeep...and it is modified...I win.

as described to me, Via my wife who is at the dealership, told to her by the mechanic, the engine is in good running order, i need to replace the brake lines, they wont do that due to the condition of the rust "if it were to take a go bump the rear axle could be brake off," they suggest replacing the whole frame

Got anyone that could take some pictures of YJ for us? It would help us determine how bad it is.

give us pics and we'll give you hope! Be strong brother, you'll be home soon and then you can beat the hell out of that rust bucket! My frame was REAL bad, but with some researched knowledge and a buddy that can weld I got back on the road.

Tell the wifey to send you some pics to post for us.

You haven't said anything thats really all that bad regarding the frame. Jeep owners repair cracked jeep frames. And you haven't said its cracked. You make reference to breaking a leaf spring mount, if you do use that opportunity to perform a shackle reversal. Use that chance to upgrade the leaf spring mounts. Switch to a link suspension.

Pictures and more descriptions Please.

I agree with everyone on here that says don't give up yet. Quadratec sells frame repair pieces that take the worry out of fabrication if your not up to it. When I bought my 93 YJ I somehow missed some rust on the passenger rear spring mount and before long it turned into a massive hole that made me think the YJ was headed for the boneyard. But for less then $200 I had the new section of frame and had a buddy help me weld it in. Good luck and thanks for your service over there.

Check Craig's list, you can do it from the sandbox. YJ frames are a regular item in my area, one right now for $200.

You will need a trailer to buy one, but that isn't a problem. When buying a bare frame, inspection is a piece of cake!

On dealerships, they don't want to work on old stuff, no value to offset their labor and parts if you can't pay. If it is more than 10 years old, the dealers don't want it in their shop.
