Cherokee Driveshaft for SYE - will this one work?

Will this driveshaft be suitable (after shortening and balancing) for use with an SYE? I'll replace all the u-joints, so I'm not worried about the missing one.

Supposedly out of a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Thanks!

It seems that either one will work. The important thing is the double cardan joint on the left in the photo.

BTW older (1970's and 1980's) Chevy fullsize front shafts are the same, but they have 1350 joints, for those who are running larger axles and t-cases.

that shaft will work fine.

It looks like it is missing the ball for the DC portion though.

If it's not supposed to move and does use duct tape.
If it's supposed to move and doesn't use WD40

What's the significance of the missing ball? Useless driveshaft? Or just buy a replacement? (sorry, still learning all the intricacies of driveshafts!)

yes you can buy the replacement.

it renders the driveshaft useless without it however.

If it's not supposed to move and does use duct tape.

I found another page that covers this in pretty good detail:

and this one too:

Some grands came with an oddball size tubing( smaller than XJ). I had one built from a grand and the driveline shop had to special order the tubing.
