I know that was wrong but now that i got yalls attention

had an SYE installd by Carolina Rock SHop, cruising down the interstate it stopped going...engine was running...acted like it being in neutral and stuff rattles and clangs, even in neutral

well now i found out 4th gear works...THAT'S THE ONLY GEAR!!

what could be wrong with it? is the tranny shot, or is it somethin else im not suspecting?

thanks to all, btw its a 95 2.5L 5sp. AX-5

The AX5 sucks. I had a similar problem, when I lost 5th on the highway. It wound up being the 5th gear snap ring, whihc is notoriously a problem in AX5's. Unfortunately, I had it fixed for 500 bucks(new hydro setup and 5th gear also). Later come to find out, the hard way, that the guy that did my work neglected to tell me about the rest of the disaster inside my tranny. It sounds like a similar problem with a snowballing amount of other problems. Chances are a rebuilt is in order, and many have been rebuilt to solve the snap ring problem. I found out mine was too mangled inside to rebuild so now it waits for money for a new one, or an AX15(from a chevy or dodge or whatever it is). I found that mine happened a while after my lift and SYE, and I think the AX5 sucks to begin with and any modding done in or around it just seals its fate.

Sounds like major transmission problems. A good shop will give you a free estimate.

Usually 4th gear is direct drive. You may have a cluster gear or something screwed like that. I had the same problem with a toyota trans. Only 4th would work, I drove it 1 1/2 hours on the interstate to get home. If you do a rebuild do it right the first time. I made that mistake of doing enought to get it working and it cost me almost twice as much in the end.

If it winds up not being the snap ring, make sure you address that weakness while in their and/or rebuilding.
