Check Engine Light

I have a 95 Wranler Sahara package with the 4.0 engine. I bought it a few months ago from a friend. It looks new. He said his dad swithed out the engine and that this new engine had about 20,000 miles on it. He told me he put electrical tape over the check engine light indicator on the dash because the light comes on and his mechanic could not diagnose the problem. I have noted that the light does not come on until I have driven 3.6 miles. All fluids are up and trhe engine runs fine all the time. I checked the thermostat and it works ok and I keep an eye on all the gauges and am looking at them when I notice the light coming on as it comes on everytime in the same area I am driving. I noticed when it got colder it took it about another mile to ome on and it is consistent in coming on in the same area I am driving. Any ideas out there. Could it be emissions control valve? Thanks in advance for your help

You could try and reset the comp. Remove all the battery connections and turn the key to the "ON" position and let it sit for about and hour or so. Turn the key to "OFF" and put the connections on and take it for a ride. See if it does it then.
