Cant snap my soft top

I replaced the snaps on the window rail clips, and when I tried to snap the top on them, i dont have enough slack! the PO replaced the plastic studs with bolts, on the windshield brackets, but when i removed the bolts, it did not free up any slack for the top. I have tried in the warm sun and still no luck, i am at a loss.

The top flaps in the wind on the highway and not only is very annoying but the snaps are also rubbing spots on the window rail.

Also, while looking for advice, I saw mention of a tailgate bar, which i do not have. anyone have any pics of theirs?

suggestions?

That bolt will have to go. IIRC, there should be enough tension in the top to keep the window rail in place without the bolts.

Look up YJ soft top parts on q-tech. They are not expensive.

A little spray lubricant in the snap head.

If the warm sun does not help, try getting the top wet.

Snap one side, go to other side and pull along the entire edge. Unsnap first side, snap other side, repeat pulling on top from other side. Then try to get the whole thing snapped.

The only way to get more slack is to get it warm. Wet helps some, too. Especially when setting it out in the sun to warm. Harder to do in winter months, obviously. I have always found that my top never snaps all the way around. It is always snug and keeps rain out tho. Snaps rattle when driving. I just chalk it up to one of those individual quirks about my Jeep in particular.

This is the tailgate bar

It slides out like this

Yeah, mine is pretty old. 18 years to be exact

Hooks to the jeep here

In the fall when I reinstall my top, it has shrunk to the point nothing firts.

I park it in full sun, and put an electric space heater in the rear bed. After about an hour I have plenty of slack everywhere and have no problems fitting everything and getting all snaps fastened.

The snaps will fir together, i just dont have enough slack to do it. I removed the bolt thinking it was pushing the rail out too wide, nope. didnt come in any when i removed the bolt. I then raised the rail up slightly to be able to snap the snaps, but when I lowered it back in place, they all popped off

Just flip up your back window. Should be a rubber "tube" sewn in near the bottom.

Slides into here on the tailgate bar

Slider her in like this

Hope this helps

Plug in a small area space heater and let it sit there foe an hours or so...you should have plenty of space then.
