Can I get some shock opinions?

I need new shocks.
I would like to get some that ride really nice because I mainly drive it and wheel it maybe once a month.
With a lifted leaf spring suspension, will "better" shocks really ride nicer?
I understand a better shock will handle offroad terrain better, but ride quality on the street?
I'm partial to Bilsteins, but if a set of Rancho will do the trick, well.....
Father's day is coming up and I'm thinking about asking for a set of nice Bilsteins.

Shocks won't do much if anything for your ride quality. All hype.

If one is leaking, replace it, otherwise leave it alone.

I have owned 30 or so cars in the last 40+ years and have never replaced a shock except for collision damage.

YMMV, My humble opinion only.

PM zukIzzy (Wayne) to see what he recommends.

He has been professionally tuning shocks for countless rigs over the years, plus several rigs here on JF, Pirate, KOH race rigs etc.

I can attest firsthand that he knows his stuff.

Couldn't agree with you more Joe. I run Bilstein 5100 on my YJ and the difference is incredible compared to my worn out procomb shocks. I guess when you are use to spam, a ribeye is not that big of a deal

Another vote for the 5100's. PM Kolack here on the boards for a quote. It's where I got mine and he offered a pretty great deal.

Cheers

I run the bilstein 5150s, it's a world of a difference over ur run of the mill oil based shock. Get urself a nice set of gas shocks and ur ride will improve greatly.

I have BDS leaf springs as well and just ordered the Fox BDS 2.0 shocks but all this talk about the 5100 is starting to make me reconsider.

Don't second guess it. I wouldn't have anything but the 2.0's in my jeep even after riding in a jeep with the 5100's. you made the right choice. Who did you get them through? What was the price?
