Bushwacker WTF?
So I'm putting my new Bushwacker cutout flares on today.....front goes relatively smooth. Get to the back, got the old flare off, took off the extension piece that bolts to the running board/step.
Hold up a flare to eyeball it and the front end (i.e. closest to the door) doesn't go to the bottom of the tub. Well, if I do make it go to the bottom, it's obviously not level which you can see just by looking at the amount of tub that's visible at the top of the flare. Thought, hmm, maybe the 2 rear flares are different and must be used on a particular side. Got the other, held it up, it lines up to the bottom of the tub, front and back, no problem. Took the "short" one around the other side, held it up (tire and flare still on) and it's obviously too short to mount to the bottom of the tub front/back and be level. What's up with that? If I make it level, the front end is gonna be above the tub bottom.

Sounds like a mix matched set. Someone may have goffed in packageing. Call them ASAP and get it taken care of. I hate stupid snags like that.
Good luck, John

<NFL Ref Mic On>Upon further review, the flares were found to be symmetrical and appear to be correct</NFL Ref Mic Off>
But for the life of me I can't figure out why they only seem to work on one side of the Jeep (i.e. the one that "fits" on the drivers side, doesn't line up on the passenger side...and vice versa). Oh well, hopefully I can finish the job tomorrow.

Is is possible that the jeep had some body repair at some point? Its odd that the two sides wouldn't be symmetrical. ![]() |

Did you get this set?
I didn't have any issues putting my Bushwackers onto my Jeep - but I do remember that both flares were matched perfectly. I would double check your Jeep.

Gonna try and get em on this morning/afternoon. Cutting the front fender was no problem, very minor really. I didn't use Bushwacker's measurement though (4 3/4" from the rear seam) as that would have you cutting right through a spot weld. Instead I cut right in front of it. The rear, I'm less certain about. Alot more to cut off and there seems to be a plate that runs across the bottom of the tub that meets up just about where you need to cut.

notice the bottom of the tub is slightly higher behind the wheel well than it is in front its supposed to be like that, therefore there is a left and right set.

Well....I got em on. Only trimmed the rear edge of the fender. Cutting the front edge looked a bit risky as you'd be
cutting through "other" pieces of the tub that may be critical to the structure. Here's a pic, though it's hard to see any detail being black on black: ![]()

Now that my springs have softened up a bit (well, alot) I am going to have to trim some more body-work, and install bumpstops to keep my tires from bending more body-panels. BTW: the Bushwackers look good on your rig!
