Bushwacker question
On bushwacker YJ cutout style front flares, that little wierd pice that goes back toward the door, is that a seperate piece or molded into the flare itself? is there a gap in the main piece where they meet? do they look decent without that piece?
I'm getting shrockworks sliders and want them to look right with the bushwackers i plan to get soon. Thanks for the help! That little wierd piece: ![]() This suggests it is: ![]()

I just finished putting my bushwackers on... took me a couple of hrs to remove the old flares and then installing the new ones... I had to remove the old rocker panel as well and the side step... I haven't decided yet if I want to put the smaller piece on... they look awesome!!!

Trimming is part of the idea of the product, to lessen tire rubbing and provide more room to flex

i didnt trim anything at all... then again I only have 31's... I believe if you have anything bigger than 31's you are gonna have to trim the wheel wells... tells you in the directions... hope that help

Yes, the flares can be installed without trimming. However....would defeat the purpose of them...which is to cover more tire, to get more flex
With the trimming....there is actually instructions for that that come with the flares. Pretty basic actually. As for the mounting of the flares.... The rear's are harder than the fronts. The fronts you basically just line up the front fender with the flare....drill holes...etc. With the rear flares, I found that you should put the flare about 1.5 inches forward of the rear corner seam. That pretty much centers them over the axle. Ive seen a few others done, and they were centered on the available trimmable area, and it looked offcenter to me. What I mean by that....the forward most part of the rear fender opening. There is little to trim there, as you will cut into the body seam. Only about 3/4 of an inch is there to trim. There is about 1.5-2.0 of trimmable area on the rearward part of the rear fender. Now if you center over what you cut....you would have your fender flare offset to the rear of the wheel well opening....and it looks wrong to me. I centered mine to the axle. As for the drilling of the holes...I suggest on the rear that you start with the top middle two holes. Reason for this. The flares, when lined up with the bottom of the rocker panel and rear quarter....only allow for about 1/4 of an inch at the top of them to drill into the wheel well. If you position them any higher, you will drill right into the rear passenger area, hence a big screw showing through to the passengers. Properly aligned to the bottom/front/back of the jeep...you should have room to drill below the wheel well seam, and the screw will be in the well...not visible. Here are a few pics to demonstrate, hope they help.
