Bucking at take off

It's only started doing it recently. In the morning I'll start it up and in 1st it starts bucking then 2nd -4th it's fine and after I drive it around for a while it's fine. Seems to only happen after it hasn't run for a while like over night but the rest of the day it's fine. Any clues? It's a 90 4.2L manual.

bucking as in it gets really jerky and the entire jeep bounces around while/shortly after letting out the clutch?

Sounds like you may have a contaminant on your friction...a.k.a., something is leaking on your clutch disk.

Hop under there and see if anything is leaking out of your bellhousing. If oil or clutch fluid got onto your clutch disk it would cause those issues. You'd have to pull of the old tranny, replace the disk, fix the leak whatever it ends up being, then toss it back together. Not fun

Also, it could be fuel. On carb'ed cars, when the carb isn't atomizing the fuel correctly(at cold temps and low RPM), it will dribble the fuel in, causing a stumbling at low RPM. VW's were really bad for this. On mine, cleaning up the carbs(emulsion tubes) usually solved this problem.

The last option I can think of is your ignition advance is not operating correctly, but if it goes away when warm, then I would guess that this is not your problem.

thanks,
